Enger Park

Home / Enger Park

Enger Park is a scenic public park located above Duluth’s West End, offering sweeping views of the city, harbor, and Lake Superior. Originally known as Grand Mountain, the land was purchased in 1921 through a donation from local furniture dealer Bert Enger, who later left additional funds in his 1931 will to support the park’s development. In 1939, Enger Tower was built in his honor and remains one of Duluth’s most iconic overlooks.

Today, Enger Park is a popular destination for visitors and locals alike, featuring walking paths, gardens, and open green space ideal for sightseeing and relaxation. The park is also home to the American-Japanese Peace Bell, a gift from Duluth’s sister city Ohara-Isumi, symbolizing friendship and cultural connection. In addition to being a scenic overlook, Enger Park is frequently used as a wedding and photography location due to its elevated views and natural beauty.

Seasonal restrooms are available during the summer months, and the park gate and tower typically close during winter weather conditions, reopening around May 1 depending on conditions. Enger Park offers a peaceful escape above the city and remains one of Duluth’s most visited outdoor landmarks.
