A Northland tradition since 1977, Grandma’s Marathon is one of the most iconic running events in the United States, bringing more than 20,000 runners and spectators to Duluth, Minnesota each June.

The race follows the stunning shoreline of Lake Superior, beginning near Two Harbors and finishing in Duluth’s Canal Park, where thousands of fans line the streets to cheer runners across the finish line. Marathon weekend also features the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon, William A. Irvin 5K, the Great Grandma’s Challenge, and youth Whipper Snapper Races, making it a full community celebration of fitness and summer in the Northland.

From elite athletes to first-time runners, the event is known for its electric atmosphere, scenic course, and unmatched community support—cementing it as the unofficial kickoff to summer in Duluth.
