It’s gorgeous outside and it’s time for lunch, dinner, or drinks. Where do you go?! We can help. Check out our list of the best outdoor patios and decks to eat on in Canal Park, Duluth MN. Cause let’s be honest, there’s nothing better than enjoying a drink and good food outside on a nice day.
Grandma’s Saloon & Grill
Up first we have iconic Grandma’s Restaurant. No only is the restaurant neighbors with the Aerial Lift Bridge, but they have a rooftop deck that allows you to practically eat underneath the bridge -well, maybe not quite that close- but it’s still an impressive view! Watch ships arrive and depart from the harbor as you enjoy the lively atmosphere, excellent customer service, and tasty food at Grandma’s Saloon & Grill. For good eats, we recommend that you try out their award-winning chicken wild rice soup, the thick-sliced beef tenderloin steak cheese French that’s smothered in mushrooms and cheese, or the marathon spaghetti that was served to the 1st U.S. Olympic team and is now served annually to Grandma’s Marathon racers.
Endion Station Public House
What once served as a railroad depot in the 1800’s is now the Endion Station. Endion features Fitger’s craft beers, wines, craft cocktails, and an extensive menu of craft ciders on tap. Enjoy an eye-level view of Lake Superior from their outdoor patio area. The seating is less than 375 feet from the lake shore! We recommend, of course, trying one (or two) of their craft ciders on tap, plus ordering up some over-sized, salted Brakeman’s pretzels or their Box Car bbq brisket pizza to pair your drink with.
Silos Restaurant at Pier B Resort
Having opened mid-summer 2016, Silos is the newest restaurant in Canal Park featuring a stunning outdoor seating area for eating. Literally sitting on the Duluth harbor waterfront, the outdoor deck has a perfect view of the Lake Superior harbor and the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge. Whether you’re looking to enjoy some lazy morning brunch or a 5-star dinner, you’ll love relaxing and taking in the sites and comfortable atmosphere at Silos. Be sure to check out their pan seared salmon or the turducken wings -you won’t leave disappointed.
Vitta Pizza
In the mood for pizza? That’s probably a silly question; I know I can be in the mood for pizza any day of the week! If you’re looking for a spot to soak up some sunny rays and enjoy a little fresh air, then check out the outdoor patio at Vitta Pizza. Their pizzas are known for their handmade dough, Italian tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and for being flame-kissed in their wood-fired Italian oven. Talk about pizza perfection. They run pizza and drink specials ever day of the week, so be sure to check out what’s baking.
Canal Park Brewing Company
Beer and burgers -a classic combo that’s hard to beat. And that’s just what Canal Park Brewing Company is excellent at serving up! Having a tough time deciding which beer to try? Order a flight and sample a number of them. They have classics always on tap, plus a number of seasonal options sure to delight. Pair your beer with a filling burger -we recommend the Jucy Lucy- or skip straight to dessert and give the chocolate stout cake a try. Enjoy all this from their relaxing outdoor deck, which happens to be less than 200 feet from Lake Superior’s shore; a stone’s throw to the Lakewalk.
Bellisio’s Italian Restaurant
Perhaps you prefer wine to beer? You’re in luck because Bellisio’s offers over 500 wine selections with 125 of them served by the glass. Talk about options, eh? Order a flight of wine, relax and people watch while dining in their outdoor seating area. You’ll have views of downtown Canal Park as well as a glimpse of the Duluth Harbor. If you get hungry you may just want to order their fennel roasted rack of pork or pasta Arrabbiata with Italian sausage. Happy hour is from 4:30 pm to 6 pm Sunday through Thursday. Wine appreciation night is every Monday during which all bottles are 50% off.
Little Angie’s Cantina & Grill
Craving Mexican (or Tex Mex) food? Head on over to Little Angie’s and kick things up a notch! Here you’ll find a full flavor menu featuring fresh salsa and chips, sizzling fajita platters, and famous house-recipe margaritas. Take in the sites from the heart of Canal Park as you sit on their spacious outdoor deck. According to them, “it’s OK to laugh out loud, fill up on fresh salsa and margaritas, and maybe have a little more than you ought to – to break the rules, so to speak.” Hey -we won’t argue with that!
Amazing Grace Bakery & Cafe
If hearty, fresh, and/or homemade is what you’re looking for then we highly recommend trying out Amazing Grace, located in the basement level of the Dewitt-Seitz building. They not only serve up out-of-this-world breakfast dishes, but their soups, sandwiches, and bakery items are also delectable. Amazing Grace is not only committed to using high quality, local, earth-friendly ingredients, but they also offer both gluten-free and vegan options. Whether you’re grabbing lunch or munching on a sweet treat (super tough call, but we’d recommend cranberry white chocolate cookies or a piece of the dutch apple pie), enjoy your food from their outdoor patio area. It’s surrounded by trees, creating a semi-private and relaxing atmosphere.
Lake Avenue Restaurant & Bar
Lake Avenue serves up next-level food and drinks. The restaurant likes to focus on locavore through their fresh menus, drinks, artists, and music that rotate with the season. They offer a full drink menu that covers everything from wine and cocktails to local craft beers. Their plated dinners may be a little different from many people’s norm, but the expertly prepared and flavored dishes are a great chance to try something new. Take pleasure in the buttered popcorn gnocchi, the coconut chicken soup, or the lucky duck pizza from their outdoor deck area.
