Things to Do in December in Canal Park

Banff Mountain Film Festival Tickets

Just because the long, warm, luxurious days of summer are gone doesn’t mean that Canal Park doesn’t have anything to offer. Amidst your busy holiday season, make time to check out these events happening in Canal Park.

November 21st – December 27th: Come out and view  Bentleyville’s “Tour of Lights” located in Bayfront Park. The annual event is back and is fun for the whole family. Enjoy America’s largest free walk through lighting display along the shores of Lake Superior. The event is completely free (although donations are appreciated). Complimentary hot chocolate, cookies, and popcorn are available while you walk through the lights. You can even stop and make a s’more while you and your family warm up at one of the 15 fire pits. Bentleyville is open weekdays from 5pm-9pm and weekends from 5pm-10pm, and is open on holidays as well. Get in the holiday spirit with the best outdoor light show in America.

December 4th and 5th: The Banff Mountain Film Festival is coming to Duluth again this December. But this year it will be even bigger and better. The Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC) will hold the film festival to accommodate for the event’s growing size. Banff will be December 4th and 5th (Friday and Saturday) with the films starting at 7pm. Tickets will be $15 at the door, or $10 in advance. Show up early and enjoy food and drinks from local restaurants while checking out all the latest gear from local vendors. Come be inspired by the mix of documentary films to go off on your own adventure.

December 11th, 12th and 13th: Come out to the DECC Symphony Hall and enjoy The ‘Manhattan’ Nutcracker by the Minnesota Ballet. Make the holiday event a part of your family’s tradition. Enjoy the Ice Fair, Sugar Plum Fairy, Mother Ginger, toy soldiers and mouse warriors in this new rendition of the holiday classic. The Friday and Saturday night shows start at 7pm and the Sunday show starts at 3pm. Ticket prices range from $13 to $42.

December 31st: Ring in the New Year with music from the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra at the DECC Symphony Hall. This New Year’s Eve, enjoy an evening dedicated to the songs of Frank Sinatra. Singer Michael Andrew will perform Sinatra songs all evening backed by the sounds of the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra. The show starts at 7pm on December 31st and tickets range from $25 to $60.  What better way to bring in the New Year than to be transported back to the 50s.
